Has TV Become Too Intrusive?

Sat, October 15, 2005

So, web ads have received a lot of press over the past few years about being too intrusive. Now, TV has some heat coming their way.

USA Today reports that fans of Desperate Housewives, Lost and other top shows have been complaining about excessive commercials that seem more intrusive than ever and slow down the programs they surround.

According to the story, "the amount of clutter, including network and local commercials and plugs for other shows, steadily has increased on broadcast and cable, to the point where an “hour-long” drama is about 40 minutes of original programming."

Nothing really surprising here except it's funny to read that the TV exec is "perplexed by the increased complaints" while the chart to the left of the quote shows a sharp increase in commercials and TV plugs.
