Virtual billboards!

OK – so here’s one of the many signs that I’m a total geek. But, this following tidbit of information is so exciting.

We all know outdoor advertising is a hotbed for the advertising space. Now, the online world is jumping into the mix with Microsoft leading the way creating 3D virtual billboards. As more and more people jump to the web for mapping tools, those flat maps we all know and love are in the process of a pretty nice makeover. Microsoft has released Virtual 3D Earth where they have begun providing customers with 3D cityscapes of many of the major cities. They are using this technology to run on their mapping programs and in video games as well.

I added a screenshot below – see if you can guess the city. :)



Unfortunately, they have not launched their New York section yet. We are keeping an eye out for it.

It’s very exciting and something we should all be aware of as I think this platform for advertising will only expand.
